Healthy Skin from the Inside Out

Awhile back I reported on how drinking plenty of water is great (and important) for health in general, but not the most effective way to hydrate your skin.

I want to elaborate on some of the suggested supplements and how they work to improve the health and hydration levels in your skin. The focus, this time, is primarily on a group of products by Lorna Vanderhaeghe. Namely: Active Collagen, Collagen Plus, and GLA Borage Oil. They work well independently but make a very dynamic skincare regime when taken as a trio.

Active Collagen– Active Collagen is a marine ingredient composed of collagen and elastin polypeptides present in the same ratio that is naturally found in skin. Active Collagen has a synergistic anti-wrinkle action: when taken orally, collagen and elastin stimulate the skin to lift and tone sagging areas and minimize lines and wrinkles.
Active Collagen can also increase the moisture level of dry skin and fight aging related to free radical damage. Active Collagen polypeptides have a low molecular weight, making it water-soluble and easily absorbed by the body.

Collagen Plus– Collagen Plus contains silicic acid, which is directly used to make collagen. Within two to three months, you will notice an improvement in the smoothness of your skin and in the strength of your hair and nails. The “Plus” in Collagen Plus Is Biotin. Like silicic acid, biotin is important for healthy hair, skin, nails and bones. The therapeutic amount of biotin required for healthy hair and nails exceeds that found in the typical diet. Supplemental biotin has been found to increase nail thickness and reduce splitting. Collagen Plus contains 50 micrograms of biotin in each drop.

GLA Borage Oil– GLA is a component of healthy skin. GLA helps to maintain the stability and fluidity of the natural water barrier in our skin. GLA is vital for keeping skin cells moist and strong improving the barrier function of the skin. 60 patients given 500 mg of GLA per day for eczema had a 90% improvement over 12 weeks. GLA is safe for all ages without the side effects seen with steroid creams.
GLA has also been found to inhibit male hormones in the skin that cause acne. GLA can be taken both internally and applied externally to acne prone areas with excellent results.
