A new device to stop serious bleeding from injuries below the waist is in use in the UK. It is a tiny balloon catheter that is inserted into the aorta, a major artery, to halt blood flow to the lower body. Blood is still getting to other parts of the body including the brain and gives doctors extra time to repair the damage.
